Performance Task Output of Grade 10 - Batch 2020-2021 - PCGS

Pros:

Encourages research skills: Students must research the migration topic to create a short story that accurately reflects the experiences of migrants, which helps them develop research skills.

Enhances communication and writing skills: Students must effectively communicate their understanding of the topic and write a narrative that is engaging and informative, which helps them develop communication and writing skills.

Allows for creativity: Students can create a story that reflects the experiences of migrants, which allows for creativity and variation in the narratives.

Promotes individual performance: Short story narratives are often written individually, which allows for easier assessment of individual student performance.

Cons:

May be emotionally challenging: Writing a short story about migration may be emotionally challenging for some students due to the traumatic experiences that migrants often face.

May require additional research and reading time: Creating a high-quality short story narrative may require additional research and reading time, which may limit the time available for other social studies activities.

May require additional grading time: Grading a short story narrative may take more time than grading traditional assessments due to the need to evaluate the narrative structure, characterization, and plot.

May have limitations in promoting teamwork: Short story narratives are often written individually, which may limit opportunities for teamwork and collaboration skills.

In summary, creating a short story narrative as a performance task for the migration topic in social studies can be a creative and engaging addition to the class, as it promotes research, writing, communication, critical thinking, and individual performance skills. However, it may be emotionally challenging, require additional research and reading time, and may have limitations in promoting teamwork and collaboration skills. Additionally, the potential for future use of the short story narrative in social studies classes should be considered.
